Neil Jewell wins 2010 Global Pizza Challenge
Neil Jewell – head chef and Charcuterie King at Bread & Wine Vineyard Restaurant on Môreson – has recently won the South African leg of the 2010 Global Pizza Challenge. This means that in May 2010 Neil will be heading off to Melbourne to represent South Africa in finals of the Global Pizza Challenge.
The pizza that clinched first place – and, according to insider information, it knocked the judges socks off – had a smoked flour base and was topped with aubergine, confit of Karoo lamb, sheeps’ feta, buchu and quince dressing.
This pizza has now been added to the Bread & Wine menu making it possible for anyone dining at Bread & Wine to try Neil’s award-winning pizza.
Môreson Blessing of the Harvest 2010
It’s almost harvest time in Franschhoek which means that it’s nearly time for the Môreson Blessing of the Harvest. This year it takes place on Saturday the 6th and Sunday the 7th of February and it costs R300 per person.
For those that haven’t had the chance to attend a Môreson Blessing of the Harvest it’s Môreson’s annual celebration of winemaking, one where every participant get the opportunity to make wine the old-fashioned way.
At Môreson’s Blessing of the Harvest you handpick your own basket of grapes and then press them using the oldest tools in the winemaking business – your feet. A relaxed lunch at the award-winning Bread & Wine Vineyard Restaurant and a highly competitive label design competition follow the harvesting and grape-stomping activities. The grapes you pick and stomp are then matured, into wine, by Môreson and available for collection later in the year.
We can’t wait for the 2010 Môreson Blessing of the Harvest and if last year is anything to go by it’s going to be serious fun! For more information, or to book, please contact Tina on – 021 876 3692 – or email her – breadandwine [at] moreson [dot] co [dot] za.
Imagine … by this time next year you could be drinking a bottle of wine you made. Now that is an exciting thought!
New stock at Touches and Tastes
In Marrakech I found wonderful treasures for Touches & Tastes. I’ve combined these with vibrant new items sourced from various producers throughout South Africa. These include throws, beautiful linen table clothes and serviettes, fashionable washing-up gloves, cupcake couture, handbags, kitchen goodies and so much more.
Môreson set to lauch new look Cap Classique at the 2009 Franschhoek Champagne Festival
Môreson will be launching their new look Méthode Cap Classique at this years Franschhoek Champagne Festival. We’re one of the few groups of people who’ve been permitted a sneak peak and we can no longer contain our delight … the new Môreson Cap Classique labels, and new packaging, are gorgeous!
If you’re at the 2009 Franschhoek Champagne Festival you can pick up a case of six, or three cases of six, from the charming and rather cute Môreson crew. There will also be a whole lot of other Cap Classique and Champagne available for tasting. For more information, or to purchase tickets, visit the Franschhoek Information website.
* The new look Môreson Cap Classique is the first addition to the 2009 hand-selected Le Quartier Français stocking filler list.
The Franschhoek Champagne Festival
The Franschhoek Cap Classique and Champagne Festival will be taking place over the weekend of 4th, 5th and 6th of December. If the last few years are anything to go by it’s going to be phenomenal!
The Magic of Bubbles is the most vivacious festival in the Franschhoek Festival Calendar. Here the best South African Méthode Cap Classique and French Champagne flow freely and excellent cuisine – prepared by top local restaurants (including us and Bread & Wine) – keeps the hunger at bay.
The Franschhoek Champagne Festival is a great opportunity to see what the local méthode cap classique producers are up to. One of our favourites – Môreson – will be launching something really exciting. We can’t wait for the festival to arrive!
