BaaFana Burger

We are delighted to announce that Lamb Burger’s soccer mad nephew is in town!

BaaFana Burger arrived, in South Africa, last Friday. He’s a very busy chap but he has promised us that every Friday from now, until the end of the 2010 World Cup, he will make an appearance.

This means that every Friday – until the end of World Cup – you can enjoy a BaaFana Burger, chips, a glass of Miss Molly wine and the free Friday night movie in our Screening Room! All this fun and delicious food for just R120 per person.

We only have 30, yes that’s right ONLY 30, BaaFana Burgers available each Friday so – if you’d like to sink your teeth into Lamb Burger’s delicious nephew – you need to book fast.

Le Quartier Français Packages – Book Now!

2010 certainly began with a bang. It’s hard to believe that we’re already in the third month of the year. The Christmas and New Year break are now a distant memory, the Soccer World Cup is around the corner and the end of Summer is rapidly approaching.

At Le Quartier Français we know that it’s been three long months since your last real break and we think it’s time you recharged your soul on a mini-break. Pick from our selection of fantastic packages (the stay for 4 pay for 3 is always popular) and book yourself and a loved one, or friend, in for a night or four.

We suggest checking out Franschhoek during the lesser-known months of April and May, it really is spectacular over this time. It’s not too hot, the wind is minimal and it’s far less frantic than during January and February. Plus restaurant bookings are far easier to come by!

To view the various Le Quartier Français packages please visit our website. To book call us on +27218762151. See you soon!

Food 24 Sizzling Chefs Competition

In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, which is this Sunday, Food 24 are searching for the most Sizzling South African Chef. In their line up of prospective Sizzlers they’re included Margot Janse and Annemarie Steenkamp (our Culinary Concierge).

Its difficult for men, and some women, to focus on the cooking when Annemarie is in the room.

It's difficult for men, and some women, to focus on the cooking when Annemarie is in the room.

We’d love one of them to win the coveted title of Sizzling South African Chef because, well, a title like that is worth about two months of endless teasing in the kitchen. For them to win we need you to vote.

To vote click here and you’ll find them on the second page of Sizzlers.

Franschhoek Fires

The recent fires we experienced in the Franschhoek Valley (you’ll find pictures here) once again highlighted the amazing support this small town provides.

A number of people chipped in to evacuate farms and homes belonging to people they’d never even met; restaurants prepared and provided meals for the hard working fire fighters and locals once again got involved in the fire-fighting efforts.

In Franshhoek you may not always know your neighbour but, when it counts, they’ll be there to help.

The Condé Nast Gold List is the Condé Nast guide to their selection of the world’s greatest hotels as chosen by the magazine’s editors and travel experts. The hotels selected receive a gold award in a given category. The categories, for the 2010 Condé Nast Gold List are: service, location, food, rooms, leisure facilities, ambience and design.

There were two other exceptional hotels that shared the Best Hotels for Food in Africa, Middle East with Le Quartier Français – these were Bushmans Kloof, for their excellent culinary offering; and Maia (in the Seychelles) for their chef-rich approach.

Everyone here feels very priviledged to be in such spectacular local and international company! Congratulations to all the other hotels that were included in the 2010 Condé Nast Gold List.

Must Have Dishes at Bread & Wine Vineyard Restaurant

Neil Jewell, head chef at Bread & Wine Vineyard Restaurant and local Charcuterie King, has some new and exciting dishes on his delectable menu. Three of these managed to knock our taste bud’s socks off!

The duck trifle; the salad of watercress, rocket, porcini and shallot dressing and the chargrilled octopus, roast tomato risotto, chorizo chips are spellbinding.

If you’re thinking of popping out to the Franschhoek Valley please replenish and revive yourself over a long and absolutely delicious lunch lunch at Bread & Wine. Please remember it’s very popular so it’s advisable to book.

Le Quartier Français and Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner – 20 days and counting – and that means that it’s time to stock up on Pink bubbly, flowers, cards, chocolate and maybe an original gift or two.

Because nothing says I love you quite like beautiful linen from Mungo Design, a chair by REcreate or a space in the next Dessert Me cooking course.

Actually nothing says I love you like all of the above accompanied by lunch at Bread & Wine – if you’re into long lazy lunches and excellent Môreson wines; or iCi – if you want to experience Franschhoek, scrumptious dining and the best strawberry daiquiris South of the equator.

Screening Room Timetable – January and February 2010

In you’re in Franschhoek, during January or February, pop in to iCi (for dinner) and the Screening Room for movie . We’ve got some great things showing and, as you no doubt know, the dinner is always good.

Franschhoek Mountain Bike Challenge

Franschhoek plays host to the Franschhoek Lions/Porcupine Ridge MTB (mountain bike) Challenge this Saturday (the 16th of January 2010). There are two routes, a 25km and a 40km, and for those that don’t mountain bike there are some wonderful hikes and less strenuous walks on offer.

If you haven’t yet had a chance to sample our wonderful Le Quartier Français breakfasts this would be the perfect opportunity. There really is nothing quite like indulging in a delectable breakfast, complete with decadent sticky buns, to make it feel like a real weekend.

Breakfast, at Le Quartier Français, is served between 07h30 and 10h30 Monday to Sunday.

Le Quartier Français 2009 Review

It’s been a busy and eventful year at Le Quartier Français.

Our restaurants have continued to do exceptionally well, with The Tasting Room placing 37 in the World Top 50 and Bread & Wine placing in the Eat Out Top 20. Margot has once again showcased her acclaimed cuisine in countries around the world and last month saw the launch of her KLM Business Class menu – which will be served for the next 10 months in KLM Business Class on all flights leaving Amsterdam.

During the course of this year the Le Quartier Français Auberge received a facelift and we added the Grande Rooms and the Petite Garden Suites to our renowned accommodation. We now offer Le Quartier Français guests the Four Quarters Suites, Auberge Suites, Grande Rooms, Petite Garden Suites and Auberge Rooms. The Tasting Room was also redecorated by well-known Dutch set designer, and Margot’s brother, Herbert Janse.

2009 also saw the release of our Culinary Concierge Concept and Programme, which includes the Mrs Ndaba initiative, and we’re proud to say that it has been met with excellent reviews. We’re also proud to say that through our Culinary Concierge Programme our guests, and Mr Tuesday, are making a significant difference in the lives of 67 toddlers.

2009 hasn’t been an easy year for anyone but it has been incredibly rewarding. Enjoy the last few days of your 2009.
