Introducing The Garden Room: offering the ultimate breakfast experience
Our sunny new breakfast room is a beautiful, inviting space that opens up onto our rambling gardens through wide glass doors. We’ve extended the breakfast hours from 07.00 till 11.00, so there’s no need to rush out of bed in fear that you’ll miss it. The Garden Room is open to guests of the hotel as well as to walk-ins.
Not just for mornings though, The Garden Room is also a great space for functions, kitchen teas and informal get-togethers (on offer we’ll have light meals, though not sit-down dinners).
The leisurely meal features a breakfast buffet with homemade granola and pastries (including our famous sticky buns), freshly squeezed juices, infused teas, and plenty of fresh fruit. The kitchen also offers an array of cooked breakfasts using only the freshest of local ingredients, such as organic eggs from Spier Estate, and pasture-reared bacon and sausages handcrafted by Neil Jewell of Bread & Wine, our sister restaurant.

We are really looking forward to the rise of Gamification. We love a game – ala Dr. Von Paris – and a game integrated into our daily lives has to be the best thing ever. Seriously, it beats sliced bread hands down.

We all know that we don’t ever grow up; finally some brands have worked it out too!
The Bollinger Exceptional Wine Service Award
Our very own Wayve Kolevsohn, who you might have met during a recent dinner in The Tasting Room, placed second in The 2011 Bollinger Exceptional Wine Service Award.
She had to jump through a number of hoops including: written exams, blind tastings and a grueling practical assessment to beat out a number of talented competitors for spot number two.
A Wealth of Health
While overseas we noticed more and more restaurants offering healthy menu alternatives for their under-12 patrons. Picture tasty dishes sans the moment-on-the-lips-lifetime-on-the-hips deep-frying.
It’s great to see restaurants committing to balanced, nutritious and inventive kids menus instead of falling into the twice-fried chicken nugget and french fry rut.
There may be hope for us restaurateurs yet.

Joy to the World
The Common Room – and its menu packed full of lip smacking delights – will be operating as normal on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
So if you’ve had enough of the turkey, ham and crackers pull into The Common Room. It is incredibly popular so bookings, unless you like living on the wild side, are a must.
The Tasting Room makes it 8 years in the Eat Out Top 10
The Tasting Room has once again featured in South Africa’s annual Eat Out Top 10 Restaurant Awards. This year Margot and her team placed 3rd in the hotly contested Top 10 category.
It marks the 8th year we have been included in the Top 10 which also – according to Eat Out trivia – means that we’ve been in Top 10 more than any other restaurant. Awesome.
Congratulations to everyone else who made the Top 10 and to all those excellent restaurants who just missed out. You are delectable, and we are privileged to be included in any line-up with you!
Cocktails really are the drink of choice at the moment. In fact if you don’t have your own in-house mixologist you really shouldn’t consider yourself a modern bar.
Our favourite mixologists are presently plumping, lifting, nipping and tucking the finest restaurant and bar cocktail menus to ensure that they’re on trend.
P.S. When you’re next in The Hoek why not pop in for one of our bespoke Bow-Chicka-Wow-Wow Martinis? It’s bound to get those toes tingling, in a good way.
Blooming Marvelous Florals
Florals have been a major trend in fashion and this is now spilling over into design. It looks like this is a trend that restaurants and hotels are embracing with gusto.
What used to be a touch of colour has been replaced with a touch of floral. Yay!
In fact we love this trend so much that we’ve incorporated it into the recent Bread & Wine Vineyard Restaurant revamp. The interior now sports an Alice in Wonderland garden feeling which compliments the outdoor courtyard perfectly.
