Upcoming cooking classes at LQF
What’s cooking good-looking? Here at Le Quartier Français our cooking classes are fun, intimate gatherings where everybody takes part and learns our original recipes through actually creating them (rather than just watching a demonstration) under the guidance of our Culinary Concierge, Vanie Padayachee.
Plus, you get to enjoy your creations for lunch, paired with local wines.
Here are our upcoming classes –a nifty idea for a Christmas present for the foodie in your life.

A year ago we launched the Mrs. Ndaba Programme and, at the time, we never dreamt it would capture as many hearts and imaginations as it has.
Our desire to give back, support and teach the local community – through this concept – has proved so popular that we now supply healthy meals to over 70 children in three different preschools five days a week.
This initiative has grown to be so much bigger than just the Mrs. Ndaba’s crèche and Friday muffins. To reflect this growth, and the fact that it now supports so many children throughout their school week, we’ve decided to rename this project Isabelo.
Isabelo, which is Xhosa for sharing and caring, is still entirely funded by the generous donations of our guests and other friends of Le Quartier Français. The children’s’ daily meals are all prepared by the Le Quartier Français team, who selflessly donate their time and expertise, so every penny that is donated is spent on the kids.
Mrs Ndaba Video
We recently had a group of children take part in the Mrs. Ndaba Fridays Programme. It was so cute that we couldn’t resist putting together this video.
New Culinary Concierge Programme
We’ve added a new programme to the Le Quartier Français Culinary Concierge offering. The Back to Basics Programme is a a true artisanal experience; where participants will discover how to turn dough into bread, cream into butter and milk into cheese.
Mrs Ndaba Update
When we introduced Ndaba Fridays (at the end of 2009) we hoped that, by the end of 2010, would be able to feed the 68 Mrs. Ndaba toddlers every day of week.
We began this initiative with just our Mrs. Ndaba Fridays Culinary Concierge Programme.
Through this programme, interested Le Quartier Français guests are given the opportunity to bake and deliver nutritious muffins to the toddlers every Friday.
On the very first day of the Mrs Ndaba Fridays Programme, one of our guests – Mr Tuesday – liked the concept so much that he decided to sponsor food for a year of Mrs. Ndaba Tuesdays.
A little later on Meneer Wednesday, who hasn’t yet stayed at Le Quartier Français, decided that he too wanted to sponsor a years worth of Mrs. Ndaba days. So Mrs Ndaba Wednesdays was introduced!
Then along came Mr and Mrs Thursday, Mr and Mr Monday and (most recently) Mr and Mrs Friday. Suddenly, in far less time than we originally anticipated, we have secured five days a week worth of meals for Mrs. Ndaba’s 68 toddlers.
The Ndaba Fridays Programme has proven to be awe-inspiring. It has been amazing and humbling to witness, first hand, how many good and generous people there are in world who are all looking for sustainable ways to change the lives of those in need.
New Culinary Concierge Experience: An Introduction to Winemaking.
Perfect for those who want an unforgettable introduction to wine, or those who want to reinvigorate their love affair with the grape.
Spend time at Lynx wine farm – with Dieter Sellmeyer, Lynx proprietor and winemaker, and his assistant Inge Terblanche – learning about the various steps and stages involved in winemaking. End off this experience with a relaxed gourmet picnic lunch on the Lynx lawn*.

Our Culinary Concierge needs your votes to secure the Sizzle!
It’s nearly the end of February 2010 which means that on Sunday the competition for Food 24’s Sizzling Chef comes to an end.
Presently Annemarie, our Culinary Concierge, is sitting second (or third). This is unfortunately not enough to result in a whole month of teasing (second or third is probably, at best, only worth a week).
Help us get Annemarie into first place so she wins a whole March month worth of kitchen-ribbing and gifts from secret admirers.
To vote for Annemarie click here and follow the instructions.

Food 24 Sizzling Chefs Competition
In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, which is this Sunday, Food 24 are searching for the most Sizzling South African Chef. In their line up of prospective Sizzlers they’re included Margot Janse and Annemarie Steenkamp (our Culinary Concierge).
We’d love one of them to win the coveted title of Sizzling South African Chef because, well, a title like that is worth about two months of endless teasing in the kitchen. For them to win we need you to vote.
To vote click here and you’ll find them on the second page of Sizzlers.
Upcoming Culinary Concierge Adventures
If you’re looking for something a little different, something that isn’t just another cooking class, then you should try one of our upcoming Culinary Concierge Adventures.
We launched the Le Quartier Français Culinary Concierge concept towards the end of 2009 and it has proved to be very popular with guests. This year we have expanded on this concept and we now also create unique Culinary Concierge Experiences tailored to a specific guest’s tastes, interests and the time they have available.
In February we have the following Culinary Concierge Adventures on offer:
Le Quartier Français and Valentine’s Day
Valentine’s Day is just around the corner – 20 days and counting – and that means that it’s time to stock up on Pink bubbly, flowers, cards, chocolate and maybe an original gift or two.
Actually nothing says I love you like all of the above accompanied by lunch at Bread & Wine – if you’re into long lazy lunches and excellent Môreson wines; or iCi – if you want to experience Franschhoek, scrumptious dining and the best strawberry daiquiris South of the equator.
