Douglas & Co

We love Franschhoek, and we’d rather support local craftsmen and designers than importing furniture. It’s not only better for the community, but also for our carbon footprint.

tables and chairs

Our tables and chairs for the new look Tasting Room were made by Franschhoek local, Stuart Douglas of Douglas & Co., who specialises in custom made cabinetry and designer furniture, the tables are made from blackwood and Franschhoek oak from trees felled when the dam was built.

Mushrooms on a stick for Braai Day

An easy idea for Braai Day. Simply coat a selection of mushrooms in olive oil, garlic and fresh herbs then thread on a stick or skewer for a gorgeous and delicious side.

Braai Day drink-spiration

Moreson Gala

Moreson Gala

Since the 24th of September is a celebration only bubbly will do.  Toast Heritage Day around the coals with a proudly South African Méthode Cap Classique. Try the Gala Cuvée Méthode Cap Classique from Môreson. The balanced fruit-forward palate is a perfect match for smoking and sticky chicken wings straight off the grill.

Happy Braai Day! Cheers!

Celebrity Chefs Challenge Dinner

Samp and beans, pilchards, and butternut—these are some of the distinctly South African ingredients four of the country’s top chefs will be cooking with for charity.

psfa

Reuben Riffel, Margot Janse, Duncan Doherty and Neil Jewell are teaming up  to create a six-course menu using only Peninsula School Feeding Association’s (PSFA) staple ingredients.

The Celebrity Chefs Challenge Dinner takes place on Saturday 29 September at The Granger Bay Hotel School Restaurant in Mouille Point, Cape Town. Contact Janine Tilley on janine@psfa.org.za to purchase tickets for the event. Tickets are R370 per person, which will feed one child every school day for a whole year!

Give us a name!

delicious family

Meet the family living on the walls of Delicious Hotel. Happy looking bunch aren’t they? Except they don’t have a name… Are they the Smiths? Is dad a banker and mom a homemaker?

Head to our Facebook page and give them each a name as well as a  little back story and you could win a night in the hotel followed by breakfast in The Common Room. Entries close 30 September.

Cooking with nettle

nettle

Interesting ingredients take the sting out of everyday cooking, we asked Margot Janse about cooking with nettle.

What does nettle taste like?
Nettle is earthy and fresh at the same time. As soon as heat is applied the sting dissipates. When cooked it turns into a very soft purée that is delicious combined with Jerusalem artichokes; they come into season at the same time so it’s meant to be!

What dishes do you use it in?
It’s often used to make soup, but it’s also great paired with root vegetables like parsnips and celeriac bulb. I love it mixed with Parmesan in potato gnocchi, and in Holland it’s often used to flavour cheese.
