Margot at Savour Tasmania

Wednesday, May 25th, 2011

This year Savour Tasmania will showcase cuisine created by four internationally renowned chefs including Margot Janse: Relais & Châteaux Grand Chef and Le Quartier Français Executive Chef.

Diners in Tasmania will have the opportunity to delight in the magic Margot weaves into her award-winning cuisine, as she transforms the sublime quality of Tasmanian ingredients into an unforgettable story-of-taste.

An inspired Margot aptly summed up why she believes the annual Savour Tasmania is such an exceptional event, “the opportunity to create dishes that highlight the best produce Tasmania has to offer is an incredible experience. It is the type of culinary adventure and taste journey every chef relishes.”

Margot will be WOW-ing diners at the annual Savour Tasmania Programme – the highlight of the Australian culinary calendar – with her acclaimed cuisine from the 25th to the 29th of May 2011.

And the winner is …

Wednesday, May 18th, 2011

We’ve finally decided who the winner of our tasty competition – motivated by Dr. von Paris’s fabulous con job – is.

It has been incredibly difficult to select a winner from all the excellent entries but, as is so often the case, it had to be done. There was simply no getting out of it.

So, without further ado, congratulations need to go to Mark Matthews who has – thanks to his excellent submission: Mr. and Mrs. Rookenloop – won dinner for two in The Tasting Room.

Well done Mark!

On our recent visit to the states we were introduced – not in person (thank goodness) – to something called the Viagra Triangle.

It’s apparently a well known triangle of restaurants where older mature men hang out looking to pick up younger women.

It is – according to our reliable sources – a real place. So if you’re looking to open an instantaneously successful restaurant in Chicago the triangle should definitely be on your list of top locations.

Neil Does Australia

Tuesday, May 10th, 2011

Neil Jewell, our favourite Charcuterie King, and his beautiful bread-baking wife – Tina – will be jetting of to Australia, from the 23rd to the 27th of June to share his passion for all things swine-and-dine related with his rather sizable Australian fan club.

The workshops cover the making of savory French style sausage, cooked and air-dried hams, blood sausage and more. For those not into meat Tina will be running her perennially popular Bread Baking courses. So while your Mr., or Mrs., spends time discovering just how much you can do with a pig you could learn how to fill your house with that delicious freshly baked bread smell.

For more information about Neil and Tina Jewell in Adelaide, South Australia, contact: Robyn Watkins on +27 21 876 2151 / robyn@lqf.co.za or Di Jenkins on +61 8 8211 8666 / info@rivercafe.com.au.

Introducing Dr von Paris

Friday, May 6th, 2011
We recently got had in the Tasting Room. Dr von Paris (great fake name) ducked out before the bill arrived. Fake credit card details and a mobile number that belonged to some poor lady, who had never eaten in the Tasting Room, left us all feeling like we’d been Punk’d. We do however think that the name the good Dr came up with was inspired … von Paris. Brilliant.
For the next week we are running a tasty competition – our own version of homage to Dr von Paris – come up with the best false name, post it on our Facebook page – and we’ll reward the name we like the most with dinner for two in the Tasting Room … and you won’t even have to duck out before the bill arrives.
Go on get posting!

Dr von Paris (great fake name) ducked out before the bill arrived. Fake credit card details and a mobile number that belonged to some poor lady, who had never eaten in the Tasting Room, left us all feeling like we’d been Punk’d. Apparently the good doctor has been visiting a number of top restaurants in and around Cape Town. Good to know that even those with fake names have excellent taste!

After we came to terms with the fact that the doctor would not be returning, to settle his dinner bill, we realised that the name he decided to use for his reign of restaurant-terror was inspired, brilliant in fact.

So – in our own version of homage – we will be running a tasty competition motivated by Dr. von Paris’s fabulous con job. From today until the 15th of May 2011 you need to come up with best false name, post it on our Facebook page, and we’ll reward the name we like the most with dinner for two in the Tasting Room.

The best news is that you won’t have to duck out before the bill arrives. Nice.
