Are pies the new cupcakes?
For the last few years the cupcake could do no wrong. Elevated from its lowly school cake-sale days it became an acceptable wedding cake, birthday cake or any other cake alternative. You couldn’t turn around without seeing one somewhere.

For those that love the cupcake this news might hit a little hard … the cupcake is, apparently, receiving serious competition from the humble pie. Everything from savory to sweet, bite-sized to oversized is in!
It seems that pies, in all shapes and sizes, are making a move to the big time.
Thinking of celebrating Christmas in Franschhoek?
The shops are all playing Christmas carols, everywhere you turn there is some new sparkly Christmas ornament you simply have-to-have and there is no avoiding the turkeys that have suddenly sprung up in the frozen poultry section. What this all means is that Christmas, if you can believe it, is just around the corner!

This Christmas Eve say no to dry turkey and average mince pies and join us, in The Tasting Room, for Margot Janse’s acclaimed nine course African Inspired Surprise Tasting Menu. It costs R1000 per person, without wine pairings, or R1400 per person, with wine pairings.
To book, because bookings are essential, call us on (021) 876 2151.
What’s happening in the next month and a bit?
We hope you’re as excited as we are for season, summer and the general influx of visitors to the Western Cape? We’re really looking forward to seeing lots of our old friends and making a whole lot of new ones.
A lot has changed at Le Quartier Français this year – we’ve added an art gallery, an unusual and indigenous herb and sculpture garden, a new restaurant, new room refurbishments and more to our offering – and if you haven’t visited in a while you should because it’s looking, tasting and feeling spectacular!
But enough about us lets look at what we’re going to be focusing on here, on our blog, in the next month and a bit. In the inevitable lead up to 2011 – which we can no longer ignore with December a little over a week away – we’re going to be looking at some of our favourite wining, dining and gently reclining trends that have been forecast for 2011.
We hope you enjoy what we’ve found, from around the world, as much as we enjoyed finding it.
